PlotNote ("the App", "we", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how PlotNote handles your information.

1. PlotNote Runs Entirely on Your Device

PlotNote is an offline-first application. All of your manuscripts, chapters, characters, notes, settings and themes are stored exclusively in your browser's local IndexedDB database (or the Tauri desktop app's local storage). No account registration is required, and no data is sent to any server operated by us.

When you use PlotNote in a web browser, the application files (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images) are served from our web host. This is a static file delivery — we do not log, store or process your manuscript content on the server side.

2. What We Collect

We do not collect, store, or have access to any of your manuscript data. Specifically:

• No manuscripts or writing content — your chapters, drafts, notes and entities never leave your device.
• No personal information — we do not require names, email addresses, or accounts.
• No analytics or tracking — PlotNote contains no analytics scripts, no tracking pixels, and no third-party telemetry.

3. License Activation

When you activate a Lifetime License, the license key is validated entirely within your browser using local logic. A flag is stored in your browser's localStorage indicating that the license is active. No network request is made to validate or register your license key.

4. Third-Party Services

PlotNote incorporates the following third-party libraries, which are vendored locally and served as static files:

• Editor.js — block editor engine (MIT license)
• Harper.js — offline grammar and spell checker (Apache 2.0 license)
• jsPDF — PDF generation library (MIT license)
• printpdf — PDF generation (Rust crate, MIT license, used in the Tauri desktop app only)

These libraries run entirely on your device. They do not send data to external servers.

5. Data Storage and Backup

Your data is stored in your browser's IndexedDB. You are responsible for backing up your work using the built-in Export feature (File → Export backup). We recommend regular exports to a safe location. We cannot recover lost manuscripts as we have no access to them.

6. The Tauri Desktop App

The PlotNote desktop app (Windows, Android) wraps the same web application inside a native shell using Tauri. The same privacy principles apply — all data stays on your device. The desktop app does not include any telemetry, analytics, or network-based logging.

7. Children's Privacy

PlotNote does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. The App is a general-purpose writing tool with no social features, chat functions, or data collection mechanisms.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
